I smell the lingering sweetness
Of ripening strawberries and it
Reminds me of a pain
That after a time becomes sour
And the bite no longer is inviting
Yet I hunger for them
The reminder of summer, cool nights
Starry skies to make wishes upon
I open the window hoping for
A loving breeze to embrace me
A feeling of relief from the
Heat of pain I can no longer hide
And I am tired of trying
To hide
The rain comes and leaves
Before I see the drops
Just the residue of moisture
Like lips waiting for the long
Awaited kiss
