the smoke of memories

as i smell the lingering
of the pear once so sweet
a sourness prevails
and i think of the children
life, dreams and happiness

i try to find the right pink
because once it came so
naturally to me
the innocence of color remaining

so i slice the rays
of sunshine with my
hand
i grasp to a memory
so fleeting i might
have imagined it
a life full of these
and i am now
a flush

decisions so beyond
my control
life and death
i never willed
but pain i felt

in the middle of green
i found yellow
i walk the line
right is north
south to the left
do not cross
be safe
